FAQs Appropriate clothing
1. Are there restrictions on clothing or footwear?
Children are welcome to wear their own clothes; the Pre-School uniform is optional, although some parents prefer this as it protects home clothes from occasional accidents with paint etc, and prepares children for starting school. We do ask that children DO NOT wear flip flops, as these are a trip hazard. Please label all clothing that your child wears to school, especially coats, bags, hats and gloves.
2. Do I need to provide a sun hat in the summer?
No, as the Pre-School has sun hats with our own logo on for all children to use. Parents are welcome to provide their child’s own sun hat, so long as it is clearly labelled with their name. On very hot days, we aim limit the exposure of children to the direct sunlight and we use sun shades in the garden at other times.
3. Will the staff put sun lotion on my child?
We ask parents to apply sun-cream before their child comes to Pre-School. If you would like us to re-apply it you must provide a named bottle and sign a Sun Cream permission slip which is available in the downloads section.
4. Do children need to bring waterproof coats or wellington boots if it is wet?
Yes, this is helpful although we do have a few spare coats. We would also encourage parents and carers to bring in Wellington Boots on wet days, although again, we have some available on our Welly Boot Store.
5. Does long hair need to be tied back?
Long hair doesn't need to be tied back. There is evidence to suggest it does help prevent the spread of head lice and if there is an outbreak, a note alerting you to this would be placed on the front door so you are aware. It may be helpful to have long hair tied back for certain events, such as our Sports Day, and you will be notified in advance when this event is taking place.
6. Can I buy my child a T-shirts or a Sweat shirt with the Pre-School logo?
Yes, Sweatshirts and T shirts are available, please ask at the Pre-School for availability and pricing. Purchase is optional. Some parents prefer to use this clothing in case paint or glue accidentally gets on a child's clothes (overalls are worn but accidents do happen!). This also helps children understand the use of a uniform in preparation for School at a later date. See the uniform here.
7. Do the children have any outside play during the sessions?
Children have access to the garden every session. We go out in all weathers so please ensure your child has waterproof and sun proof clothing.
