FAQs Sickness
1. My child is sick and has vomiting and/or diarrhoea. When can they come back to Pre-School?
To ensure a virus is not transmitted to either other children or our staff, your child can only return 48 hours after the last bout of symptoms. Please see the NHS Direct website for more information on how to treat these symptoms.
2. Should I ring the Pre-School if my child is ill?
Please do inform us if your child cannot attend Pre-School. It is useful to notify the staff of your child’s symptoms so that they can be vigilant should other children present similar symptoms. If there are a large number of children and staff affected, please see our Pandemic Policy for details of how this would affect the Pre-School. There is also information from the Health Protection Agency in our downloads section titled Infection Control.
3. Can you give Calpol to my child?
Please note, Pre-School staff cannot administer a non-prescribed medicine to a child, including Calpol. If your child requires Calpol, we would suggest that your child is cared for by a parent or relative who can give the required dosage at the appropriate times.
4. Can you give Prescribed medicine to my child? Can his medicine be kept on the premises and used if he needs it?
Yes, we can administer prescribed medicine as long as the child has already taken this medicine under your care and has shown no adverse side-effects. Please download a form from our website so that the Staff are aware of how and when the medicine should be administered. Please hand this form into our Manager or Deputy Manager. Paper copies of the form are available at the Pre-School.
