Dear Parents/Carers
Following on from last week's Obstacle Course, the children have taken turns making their own ones for themselves and their friends. This has involved the children using their initiative, and expanding on ideas Mandy had used, deciding whether or not they will work.
The children also enjoyed practising their letters and wrote their names on the crazy paving; they made lovely shapes, too, and even decorated Bev's wooden chair, turning it into the Storytelling Throne!
The children coloured in Easter Boxes which they will be taking home to fill with coins to purchase some outside toys like scooters. We discussed this with them, learning about being kind and helpful to each other and supporting the Pre-School community.
To help the children with their fine motor skills, they were encouraged to make Crazy Hair Faces when they threaded pipe cleaners through holes in cardboard faces and added colourful beads; they completed the look with Googly eyes and noses. Another way they strengthened these skills was by clipping a fluffy pompom onto a peg, dipping it in paint and decorating card Easter eggs. They also scrunched up pink, white and blue tissue paper to make pretty designs on the eggs.
Marion's growing activity was planting cress seeds. The children were curious about the growing process and they talked about plants needing sun, water and air to thrive. They considered details such as the size of the seeds and the feel of dry, and then damp cotton wool which they fitted into egg boxes they had painted as containers. They can't wait for them to start growing!
The colour of the week is 'yellow'
The Makaton sign of the week is 'egg' + 'chocolate' (last week's sign)
